PART-TIME PIANIST/ORGANIST – MUSIC DIRECTOR

Christus Victor Lutheran Church Mission Statement:
To bring the life, love and teachings of Jesus Christ to today’s world.
Music Director Purpose: To develop and lead the music ministry for Christus Victor Lutheran Church utilizing vocal and instrumental, traditional and contemporary music that enhances the worship experience and glorifies God through music.
Responsibilities:
* Plan, rehearse, and direct vocal choir, and present the musical offerings for Sunday morning and special services.
- We worship on Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m.
- Short evening services at 7 p.m. on Wednesday evenings during Advent (3 or 4 Wed.) and Lent (5 Wednesdays).
- Holy Week – Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Sunday
- Choir practice one night each week during the school year. (Currently Tuesday evenings)
- Praise Band practice Sunday following worship.
- * Work with current volunteer bell choir leader – Bell Choir practices once per week during the school year.
- * Wrap all rehearsals, meetings, or gatherings in an atmosphere of spirituality by beginning and ending with prayer.
- * Attend monthly Worship and Music committee meetings to plan and coordinate music for worship.
- * Order, supply and maintain the music library and instruments. Secure replacement or repair instruments and music as needed.
- * Develop and work within an annual budget.
- * Arrive at least 30 minutes prior to rehearsals and worship services for prep time and coordination with Pastor for any last minute clarifications and/or changes.
- * Provide a substitute for Sunday worship services when approved absence occurs.
- * Actively participate in the life and ministry of the Christus Victor Lutheran Church.
Qualifications:
* Embraces Christian teachings and understands and embraces the mission of Christus Victor Lutheran Church.
* Handles sensitive issues and maintains confidentiality in all matters.
* Skilled in selecting and leading music in worship through electronic keyboard. Experience playing organ is a plus but not essential.
* Skilled in leading choral music and congregational singing in both traditional and contemporary styles.
* Skilled in recruiting, developing and working with soloists, small groups and instrumentalists for occasional offerings in worship services.
* Skilled in vocal rehearsal techniques.
* Good organizational, administrative and communication skills
* Ability to work in a team environment, collaborating with the Worship and Music committee, musicians, and Pastor in the selection and creation of weekly liturgies
* Experience in a similar role within a Christian worship setting is a plus
* Proven leadership skills in working with volunteer musicians.
* No specific educational requirements.
